Rangers, Blue Wave Swimmers Seek Gold

Jesuit Dallas swimmers earned their first team title since 2012 at the Class 6A Region II meet on Feb. 8 in Lewisville.

In the process, the Rangers qualified three individual athletes for the boys state meet this weekend in Austin. They include regional champion and school record-holder Luke Lary in the 100-yard butterfly, Sam Kennington in the 50 freestyle, and Jonah Ruhl in the 100 freestyle. Jesuit also advanced in the 400 freestyle relay.

In Class 5A, Highland Park’s Angelina Huang and Lydia Westcott will compete in multiple events at state thanks to stellar performances at the Region II meet in Frisco.

Huang has the second-fastest qualifying time in the girls 100 backstroke in her third appearance at state, and also will swim in the 200 individual medley. Westcott is set to race in the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke.

HP’s state contingent will include Nathan Chan in the boys 100 butterfly, as well as quartets in the girls 200 medley relay, girls 400 freestyle relay, and boys 200 freestyle relay.

Cullen Kemp and Nathan Harris, two freshman divers, also will make their debuts at the state meet for the Blue Wave.
