Highland Park will look to reverse its recent postseason fortunes when the Class 5A Region II baseball playoffs begin on Thursday.
The Scots (19-10) will face Frisco Emerson in a best-of-three series aiming to advance past the bi-district round for the first time since 2019, seeking to break a string of four consecutive first-round exits.
HP is a top seed in the Division I bracket after tying for the runner-up spot in District 12-5A during the regular season. The team returned to the 5A classification this season after spending the past two years at the 6A level.
The Scots missed a chance to share the league title with a 3-0 loss to Frisco Lone Star in the regular-season finale on April 25. Still, they have won 14 of their last 17 games overall.
Elsewhere in the 5A playoffs, W.T. White will face Bryan Adams in a best-of-three series in Division I. The Longhorns (16-14) will look to find consistency after a fourth-place finish in District 13-5A. They most recently won a first-round series in 2023.
In 5A Division II, Hillcrest will look to keep its remarkable playoff streak alive during a first-round matchup against Mesquite Poteet. The Panthers (18-10), who tied for second place in 13-5A, have advanced to the second round for seven consecutive seasons dating back to 2017.
