Canadian loves chicken tale 

I truly appreciated your piece “Is It Backyard Chicken Time?’” (March issue, Page 2).

These poor birds are so often seen as nothing more than egg laying machines, so to read “In my view, you’re getting them for pets and some fun science understanding, and understanding the circle of life…And not for saving on eggs” and “(the) family won’t eat ‘Anna,’ ‘Elsa,’ or ‘Laura Ingalls’ once they go through ‘henopause’ and become freeloaders” was truly heartening. 

It will help to show readers that these animals are sentient beings who deserve the same care and respect we would give to a cat or a dog.
