Not every animal has a backbone, but the children at the University Park Public Library sure do.

Children and adults failed to bat an eye while watching a presentation that included pink tarantulas, lizards that looked like snakes, and ferrets with red eyes. Cindi from All About Animals shared information about the furry, scaley, and somewhere-in-the-middle creatures during a June 11 presentation supported by the library.

Cindi kicked off the show by holding up Luigi the legless lizard.

“We know it’s a lizard because snakes don’t have eyelids. People always say, ‘I don’t like snakes, they look like they’re staring at me all the time.’ Well, they have no other choice,” she explained.

From there, Cindi introduced more unexpected animals, including Daisy the rose-haired tarantula with pink-tinted fur and Jellybean the albino ferret with white fur and red eyes. Other sources of excitement were Bluey the blue-tongued skink and Madessa the walking stick. While many of the animals are often stereotyped as scary or dangerous, Cindi helped viewers see them differently.

More events will be held this summer by the University Park Public Library, including an art event next Tuesday, June 24and a Texas Rangers presentation next Wednesday, June 25. Click HERE to learn more about the Library’s Summer Reading Program.
