Three Park Cities families, with some help from KDC Real Estate Development, raised more than $15,000 at a lemonade stand on July 12 to help remember Camp Mystic girls who were victims of the Hill Country’s catastrophic flooding.
“The stand turned into a true community effort, with friends and neighbors jumping in throughout the day to help raise money,” said mom Aarica Mims, who teamed up with the Dahl and Dunlap families to open the stand. “While we helped get it off the ground, it was the community, especially the kids, who carried it forward and made it what it was.”
The money raised at the stand was matched by KDC. The donations will be evenly distributed to the memorial funds of all 27 Camp Mystic campers and counselors who were victims of the flooding.
“We went back and forth, and at the end of the day, it felt really important to do it for all of the girls,” Mims said. “It has been great for the kids to think that they could help in some way.”
Mims said that she had been moved by the community’s outpouring of support for the flood’s victims.

“Whether or not people know these families personally, the desire to show up and support has been so sweet,” she said. “I truly hope they feel that love surrounding them now, and for years to come.”
