When Debbie Lang, a community volunteer from Devonshire, returned to Dallas five years ago, she resumed volunteering with the Chi Omega Christmas Market. This massive shopping experience has raised more than $11 million for more than 154 worthy Dallas-area beneficiaries since 1978.

“The event not only brings hope to local nonprofits supported by its proceeds but also offers the community a chance to shop in anticipation of the upcoming Texas holidays: Fall, Football, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and, of course, Christmas,” she said. “Shoppers can expect unique gifts and beautiful seasonal décor around every corner.”
How did you get involved with this nonprofit?
It is a Chi Omega tradition for college-age women in the Dallas area to volunteer during the Market. When I attended SMU, I volunteered at the Market in the days when it was held at the Convention Center in downtown Dallas. Many shoppers may remember the fabulous tortilla soup at the cafe — we are excited to offer the freshly made and dressed soup at our new location this year — (Sept. 24-27 at) Dallas Market Hall.
Why do you support it today?
When I returned to Dallas five years ago, one of the first things I did was sign up to volunteer at the Market. It gave me the chance to reconnect with old friends and sisters, make new ones, and get more involved each year. I’m proud to be serving as co-chair for a second year in 2025.
In addition to the meaningful relationships I’ve built, I’m grateful for the opportunity to connect with our community in such a personal way. We’ve had the chance to visit each of our 2025 beneficiary organizations on-site, and it’s been incredible to see them working together in harmony to serve those in need.
This year’s beneficiaries include: Beacon Hill, Broadway Dallas, Community Partners of Dallas, Connecting Point of Park Cities, Make-A-Wish North Texas, New Friends New Life, Sleep in Heavenly Peace TX-Dallas/Ft Worth, SPCA of Texas, and The Magdalen House. Additionally, funds raised will support collegiate scholarships.
What would you say to someone else considering a donation to the nonprofit this year?
Your donation will make a real, tangible difference right here in Dallas. The Chi Omega Christmas Market carefully selects projects that truly need funding within local nonprofit organizations focused on Arts, Civic, Education, Health, and Welfare. Every dollar goes directly toward improving lives in our own community.
