University Park’s Courtney and Nathan Gilbert — a community philanthropist and an orthopedic surgeon — know the statistics.

“A report of child abuse is made every 19 minutes in Dallas County,” Courtney noted. “It’s hard to believe, but 1 in 10 children will be sexually abused before their 18th birthday.”
That’s why they support DCAC.
What kind of work does it do?
DCAC does critical work to keep the children of our community safe. They handle the most severe cases of child abuse and work with teams to do forensic interviews that reduce trauma, coordinate prosecution with law enforcement and the DA, and provide free therapy services to clients using a variety of modalities.
How did you get involved with this nonprofit?
Our first gift was over a decade ago in support of their now sunset luncheon. However, last year I had the honor of chairing their largest fundraising event, Art for Advocacy, and was able to dive into their mission in a new way while sharing everything I learned with a room of 700+ people! If you’ve never attended their art event, I encourage you to check it out this September.
Why do you support it today?
We owe it to our community to keep the doors of DCAC open and ensure its staff is prepared to meet the needs of the children and families they serve.
What would you say to someone else considering a donation to DCAC this year?
Visit DCAC and see for yourself how they’re transforming lives. They do so many things to make our community safer and heal those they serve, and I encourage everyone to learn more. This is our city. These are our kids. And that makes it our responsibility to keep them safe. Child Abuse knows no boundaries — it can happen to any child in any city, including ours.
