The Friends of the UP Public Library invites visitors to feed their curiosity by attending riveting lectures about aviation pioneers and the evolving future of college recruitment.

Annual Fundraiser with Dr. Elliot Engel

Professor Elliot Engel returns to University Park to educate and entertain listeners with his lecture “Brothers Not Twins: Separating Wilbur and Orville Wright,” illuminating the moment when the single-most purely American invention of the first half of the twentieth century shocked the world.

The event will be held in the UP Public Library third floor community room at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11. Tickets are $40 and can be purchased here. The funds raised will be used to support the UP Public Library.

Christine McKenny with Allie Beth Allman & Associates has sponsored the program.

Meet Me at the Library Lecture with Sam Carpenter

Sam Carpenter will join the list of invigorating speakers to participate in the Friends’ Meet Me at the Library Lecture Series with his lecture, “The Changed Landscape of Collegiate Athletic Recruitment.”

Distinguishing fact from fiction, Carpenter will explore how the payment of college players has changed recruitment prospects for high school athletes, as well as its impact on the recruitment of women athletes and athletes competing in non-revenue sports.

The event will take place in the UP Public Library third floor community room on Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, but reservations are recommended through the Friends’ website.

First United Bank has sponsored the entire Meet Me at the Library Fall series.
