Highland Park kept steamrolling through District 7-5A Div. I competition with a 56-14 dismantling of Burleson Centennial on Friday.
The final regular-season road game for the Scots resulted in their eighth consecutive victory. They’ve clinched at least a share of the league title, and can earn it outright — as well as a top playoff seed — with a win over Midlothian next week.
Buck Randall threw three touchdown passes, including a pair to Cannon Bozman, as HP opened up a 35-7 halftime lead and never looked back.
The Scots have averaged 54.3 points over their past six games. The HP offense reached the end zone on seven of its first eight possessions and the defense had three takeaways.
After Harrison Cullum set the tone with a long return of the opening kickoff, the Scots (8-1, 5-0) capitalized almost immediately with a James Flowers touchdown run.
Randall and Bozman hooked up for their 12th scoring connection on the next possession. A fumble recovery by Langedon McMurray gave HP another scoring opportunity, but a red-zone interception by Centennial’s Landyne Bagley ended that particular threat.
Still, HP went back to work in the second quarter, with a touchdown pass from Randall to Matthew White followed by another scoring plunge by Flowers. The latter was teed up by a Denis Prous fumble recovery in Spartans territory.
Even after Centennial (3-6, 2-3) got on the board with a short Ben Chavarria touchdown run in the final minute of the first half, the Scots marched 63 yards in just 34 seconds, capping the flurry with a 26-yard Bozman score in the closing seconds before halftime.
HP relied on the ground game to move the clock after halftime, resulting in a third touchdown run by Flowers and one by White.
Even the defensive reserves got into the scoring act in the fourth quarter, when Beckett Curtis returned a fumble 90 yards for HP’s final score of the night.
Randall completed 16 of 20 throws for 282 yards, doing most of his damage in the first half. Bozman caught five passes for a game-high 120 yards, and White tallied 122 yards of total offense on 17 touches.
