The community can experience the joy and prosperity of the new lunar year from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21, during LunarFest at the Moody Family YMCA.
The immersive event will give visitors a chance to explore three distinct spring festivals. Click HERE to reserve a spot. Ear protection is recommended for younger guests as the event’s drummers may be loud.
To experience the Chinese New Year, community members will have a chance to witness the mystery of Bian Lian (Face Changing Performance) and the excitement of the traditional Lion Dance, try their hands at Chinese calligraphy writing and Chinese painting, dress up in traditional outfits, or learn to play Chinese mahjong while enjoying a cup of tea and some dumplings.
To find out more about Korean Seollal, visitors can enjoy the beat of NANTA Korean drummers, be entertained by adorable traditional fan dancers, play the game gonggi (Korean Jacks popularized in the Netflix show Squid Games), try on Korean traditional Hanbok, and learn how to make their own Norigae (Hanbok charm).
To explore Vietnamese Tết, community members can sample new delicacies, and create a Hat Non La as they dance along with Vietnamese performers.
The event is presented by HP CultureFest and the Moody Family YMCA in partnership with the University Park Public Library and Highland Park Library.
