A stellar regular season suggests Highland Park could be one of the best volleyball teams in the state. Now the playoffs give the Lady Scots a chance to prove it.

HP, which has won 15 consecutive matches, will start its postseason run on Friday against Frisco Heritage in the Class 5A Division I bi-district round at The Colony.

The Lady Scots (37-8) swept through a District 12-5A schedule that included defending 5A Division II state champion Frisco Wakeland as well as perennial power Frisco Reedy. They’ve dropped just 10 sets in 17 matches since the beginning of September.

That earned HP the district championship and top playoff seed. The Lady Scots will look for a deeper run than a year ago, when they were upset by McKinney North in the second round.

Meanwhile, Heritage (19-17) finished fourth in 11-5A during the regular season. The winner will meet either Lufkin or Melissa next week in the area round.

In District 13-5A, Hillcrest claimed the title and a top seed in the Division II bracket after an undefeated run through league play for the second consecutive season.

The Panthers (22-10) will match up against Mesquite Poteet in their playoff opener on Thursday at Ellis Davis Field House. They’ve won seven straight matches, including five in a row via sweep.

The winner will take on either Midlothian Heritage or Killeen Ellison in the area round. Hillcrest fell to Woodrow Wilson in the first round last season.

W.T. White finished in a tie with Molina for the runner-up spot behind Hillcrest, and will be the top seed from 13-5A in the Division I bracket. The Longhorns (23-13) will face North Mesquite in bi-district action on Thursday at Loos Field House.
