Maman, a New York-based, French-inspired café and bakery, has opened in The Plaza at Preston Center. The delightfully decorated space is the perfect setting to enjoy pastries, coffee, and light soups, sandwiches, and salads.

This is the 50th location of the café and the first in Texas. More than a café though, maman is a lifestyle brand curated by founders Elisa Marshall and Benjamin Sormonte who first opened maman in Soho, New York, in 2014.

“We are thrilled to bring maman to Dallas,” says co-founder Elisa Marshall. “We can’t wait to become a part of the community by creating a gathering space where people can celebrate life’s special moments.”

The bakery menu includes an array of pastries such as croissants, cookies, and a lovely pistachio orange olive oil cake. Savory food options include omelettes, soups, salads, and sandwiches such as Martha Stewart’s chicken club sandwich.

There are a few items created exclusively for the Dallas store. They are the cheesy brisket croissant roll, a French-style flaky croissant swirl with Texas smoked brisket, sharp cheddar cheese, wholegrain mustard and herbs; the Lone Star cinnamon bun, a sweet fluffy pastry dough filled with cinnamon sugar and topped with a sweet, creamy vanilla glaze and a crunchy pastry star; and a salted caramel pecan pie roll, a soft, buttery pastry swirled with salted caramel, vanilla and toasted maple Southern pecans.

Maman is adorable and I predict many a baby and bridal showers will take place here. In addition to the French country interior, draped with floral and greenery garlands and dotted with blue ceramics and pottery, there is a shaded outdoor patio.

In addition to its edible wares, maman sells gifts including its best-selling cookbook Maman: The Cookbook, All Day Recipes to Warm Your Heart.

Two important things to note; maman is both laptop and alcohol free. Meaning, guests can neither set up their laptops and work for hours in this restaurant or order a glass of rose wine to pair with the restaurant’s Mediterranean harvest bowl.

Located at 4004 Villanova St., maman is open from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The kitchen closes at 4 p.m. so menu offerings until 6 p.m. are limited to pastries.
