Dallas residents kicked off the holiday season on Dec. 6 with Klyde Warren Park’s annual tree lighting event.

The celebration was presented by Energy Transfer, with honorary chairs Catalina Gonzalez Jorba and the Santiago Jorba Family, who worked to help create magical memories for Dallas families.

The day’s festivities opened with an assortment of food trucks, including Mi Cocina and Cone Creamery at 11 a.m. on the West Lawn. At 3 p.m., the East Lawn hosted six new trucks, including Eloisa’s Bodega and Breakfast Brothers.

The evening featured visits straight from the North Pole — free photos with Santa, story time with Mrs. Claus, and even guest appearances from Frosty and Rudolph.

Attendees also enjoyed entertainment from face painters and stilt walkers and had the chance to start their holiday shopping early at The Boho Market.

Live dance performances appeared onstage, including an energetic, Texas-themed piece from the Lake Highlands Wildcat Wranglers. Students from The Dallas Conservatory brought some extra sparkle to the evening with a riveting performance of The Nutcracker.

At 6:30 p.m., the big moment arrived — the Mayor’s Tree was illuminated, a cascade of rainbow lights sending all the appropriate oohs and ahhs through the crowd.

The event concluded with a free screening of Frozen, presented by Laura and Lloyd Pierson in honor of Scott K. Ginsburg.
