Andrew Paul, a former Parish Episcopal running back now at Jacksonville State in Alabama, provided some fireworks early in college football’s bowl season.
Paul scored the winning touchdown on a 1-yard run in the fourth quarter of the Salute to Veterans Bowl on Wednesday in Montgomery, Alabama, as the Gamecocks rallied for a 17-13 victory over Troy.
Paul, a junior, finished with 127 rushing yards and three touchdowns this year in a reserve role for Jacksonville State (9-5). He posted a season-high 67 yards and a score during a Sept. 6 win over Liberty.
He was the top rusher on two TAPPS state championship teams at Parish in 2020 and 2021. After that, Paul signed with Georgia, where he spent his first two college seasons before transferring to Jacksonville State.
