A prominent Preston Hollow rabbi will attend President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address Tuesday as a guest of a North Texas Congressman.

Temple Emanu-El Senior Rabbi David Stern will attend the event as a guest of Congressman Marc Veasey, D-Fort Worth. Temple Emanu-El in the 8500 block of Hillcrest Road in Preston Hollow is among the largest synagogues in the South and Southwest.

In the announcement of Stern attending as Veasey’s guest, Veasey noted Stern’s sermon titled “What Has Become of Us?” from earlier this year, in which Stern “reflected on America’s moral responsibilities, including how we welcome and treat immigrants,” and “called on communities to extend compassion and respect to all who seek opportunity.”

In the sermon, Stern “drew on Jewish teachings about welcoming the stranger and honoring human dignity.”

“Rabbi Stern’s steadfast leadership and dedication to service, both within the Jewish community and across North Texas, exemplify the best of our district,” Veasey said in the announcement. “His commitment to promoting unity, combating hate, and building bridges between communities is most needed right now.”

The State of the Union Address will begin at 8 p.m. Central Time and will be covered on many major TV networks, including ABC News, CNN, Fox News, PBS and others, and online via NBC News, C-SPAN, and more, as the Dallas Morning News reported.
