SMU confirmed the Cox School of Business graduate students and staff that were stuck in the Middle East after the U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran and Iran’s retaliatory strikes closed much of the region to air travel earlier this month have safely returned to Dallas.
“We’re pleased to share that the Cox graduate students and staff have returned safely to Dallas. We appreciate the many team members who helped support the group and coordinate their return,” the university confirmed in a statement.
SMU officials shared the weekend of Feb. 28 that the university was canceling its Dubai program, students and staff were safe and sheltering in “secure accommodations, and efforts were underway to return the students and staff in the region to the U.S.
In the immediate aftermath of the strikes, the Associated Press reported hundreds of thousands of travelers were stranded as the airports in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha were closed.
SMU’s Cox School of Business website lists an MBA program for which students and staff have previously traveled to the region.
