A Highland Park High School student and two students from Preston Hollow private schools were among the group of eighth to 11th graders to receive a prestigious statewide recognition.

As part of a partnership between the Texas Cultural Trust and the Texas Commission on the Arts, student artists in music, theater, dance, visual arts, literary arts and more were recognized as Butler Texas Young Masters. They each received a $10,000 scholarship grant, over two years.

“The Young Masters grant program was created as a way to recognize and support young people pursuing the dream of becoming prominent Texan artists of the next generation,” said TCA Executive Director Gary Gibbs. “These young artists earned the Young Masters title because of their outstanding artistic ability, talent, and dedication to developing their knowledge in their chosen discipline. We congratulate them on their accomplishments.”

The following Park Cities and Preston Hollow students were recently named Butler Texas Young Masters:

  • Ayden Yang, 8th Grade, St. Mark’s School of Texas, Music/Voice
  • Caroline McGowan, 10th Grade, Highland Park High School, Dance
  • Jenny Chu, 11th Grade, The Hockaday School, Literary Arts/Poetry

Since the program’s inception in 2002, the Trust and TCA have awarded 431 grants to 199 Young Masters, totaling more than $1.3 million.

The 2026 Butler Young Masters will be recognized on April 13 at an event at the Zach Theater in Austin. The event will feature artists including Ray Benson from Asleep at the Wheel, Lauren Anderson from the Houston Ballet, award-winning author Elizabeth Crook, media personality Trevor Scott from We Are Austin, and more.
