SKULDUGGERY OF THE WEEK: BACKPACK BURGLARY

Reported at 8:26 a.m. March 23: An opportunistic thief took a backpack containing a tablet, a laptop, and more from a vehicle that may have been left unlocked. The backpack with laptop and tablet inside were found in the 4900 block of Abbott Avenue.

HIGHLAND PARK

23 Monday

Reported at 9:59 a.m.: A thief took tools, including a stick welder, laser level, and security camera from a box trailer parked in the 4500 block of Abbott Avenue.

Arrested at 1:10 p.m.: A 19 year old in the 5400 block of Sewanee Avenue.

Arrested at 3:22 p.m.: A 59 year old in the 4500 block of Roland Avenue for a parole violation and warrant.

24 Tuesday

Arrested at 4:34 a.m.: A 34 year old at the intersection of Wycliff Avenue and Throckmorton Street for unauthorized use of a vehicle.

Arrested at 4:28 p.m.: A 55 year old for a warrant.

Reported at 5:36 p.m.: A careless driver hit a vehicle in a parking lot in the 4800 block of Lemmon Avenue and didn’t leave information.

25 Wednesday

Reported at 11:38 a.m.: A crook stole a Bobcat Mini Skid Steer parked in the 3900 block of Lexington Avenue.

Reported at 3 p.m.: A shoplifter swiped two tester bottles of Ex Nihilo perfume from The Conservatory in Highland Park Village, hid them in his jacket, and left the store.

26 Thursday

Reported at 8:13 a.m.: An opportunistic burglar got into a car that’d been left unlocked in 4500 block of Fairway Avenue, rummaged through it, and took a pair of Nike Dunk shoes, a pair of Adidas tennis shoes, and a Northface coat.

Reported at 3:03 p.m.: A reckless driver pulling a trailer left without stopping after the trailer hit another vehicle while turning in the 4200 block of Mockingbird Lane.

Reported at 3:58 p.m.: A burglar broke got into an unlocked vehicle in the 4500 block of Fairway Avenue and snagged a backpack and fake designer purse.

Arrested at 10:30 p.m.: A 26 year old in Highland Park Village for failure to leave ID at an accident.

27 Friday

Arrested at 5:19 p.m.: A 29 year old at Preston Road and Edmondson Avenue for a warrant.

28 Saturday

Reported at 10:59 a.m.: A porch pirate pilfered a package containing a dirt bike helmet, protective gear, jersey, and goggles from outside a home in the 4700 block of Bowser Avenue.

29 Sunday

Arrested at 11:25 a.m.: A 42 year old in the 4500 block of Mockingbird Lane for possession of a controlled substance.

Reported at 1:31 p.m.: A pilferer stole a pistol from the console of a vehicle in the 3400 block of Drexel Avenue.

Reported at 7:49 a.m.: A crook drove off in a vehicle from Preston Road. The vehicle was later recovered.
