Highland Park’s girls track and field team had a strong showing at the District 12-5A Championships April 9-10 at Standridge Stadium in Carrollton.
The Lady Scots combined to sweep the team titles in varsity and junior varsity and posted 44 personal-bests and 15 additional season-best marks.
In the varsity meet, HP scored 170 points to finish well in front of second-place Frisco Wakeland (144) and third-place Frisco Reedy (94).
“We were very pleased with the results,” said Susan Bailey, HP head coach. “This is our focus every year. We always talk about the date and being ready for it and to be at our best. They’re Highland Park kids, so you know they’re going to be pretty focused. But they really did a great job and even probably exceeded our expectations.”
The top four finishers in each event qualify for the area meet slated for 9 a.m. Friday at Standridge. At area, the top four again qualify for the regional meet.
Leading the charge by procuring gold medals were Emma Luedtke in the long jump (17-8) and the 1,600-meter relay team of Devon Schumaker, Adelaide Wortman, Stella Pruett and Kate McCarty (4:01.18).
