For the first time in program history, the Dallas Jesuit golf team has qualified for the state tournament in three consecutive years.

The Rangers punched their ticket to the Class 6A Championships (Monday-Tuesday at White Bluff Resort in Whitney) by placing third Saturday at the 6A Region I Championships at Tangle Ridge Golf Course in Grand Prairie.

In addition to earning a trip to state, Jesuit was also pleased with a fourth-place showing from its second team, which finished just six strokes off the pace.

“It went really well for us,” said Cathy Marino, Jesuit head coach. “We’re obviously pleased to qualify for state, but for our other team to almost qualify is really exciting as well.”

Jesuit’s top team fired rounds of 296 and 298 for a two-day total of 594, while the second squad shot 298 and 302 (600) to finish in a tie for fourth with Coppell. Southlake Carroll (587) and Prosper (593) finished first and second, respectively.

Marino noted a key to Jesuit’s success was the depth of the squad rising to the occasion, in particular after losing last year’s regional champion Jack Clancy prior to the postseason.

“Losing Jack was a big blow, but everyone stepped up and raised their level of play,” she said. “That was awesome to see.”

Jesuit’s top team featured Spencer Carter (72-73–145), Jonah Fahrenbruch (71-78–149), Jack Brown (77-74–151), Alex Murray (79-74–153) and George Weeldreyer (76-77–153).

The second team consisted of Andrew Dominguez (71-75–146), Dexter Zimmerman (76-71–147), Jackson Straley (73-79–152), Will Fife (78-78–156) and Henry Schulze (82-78–160).

Jesuit will now prepare for the state tourney and is hopeful for improved results after taking sixth in 2024 and seventh in 2025, as well as good weather after last year’s tournament was limited to one round due to rain.

“I’m just hopeful we continue to play to our capabilities and if we do that, I think we’ll have a pretty good chance for a medal,” Marino said. “It’s a new course for state, but we played it at the state preview and finished fourth, and we’ll be able to play a practice round on Sunday to help get ready for it.”
