Jesuit Dallas continued its recent postseason domination of Arlington ISD on the baseball diamond this week.

The Rangers opened the Class 6A Division 2 playoffs with a sweep of Arlington Lamar in the bi-district round Wednesday and Thursday – the sixth consecutive year Jesuit has dispatched of an Arlington opponent in the first round.

Jesuit, which entered the playoffs ranked No. 3 in 6A in the area by The Dallas Morning News, has now won 20 of its past 21 games entering the area round where they await the winner between Denton Guyer and McKinney Boyd.

The Rangers kicked off the series with a win over the Vikings on the road, 13-4, before returning to Wright Field Thursday where they finished off Lamar with a 3-0 win.

Texas signee James Jorgensen continued his stellar season on the mound in Game 2, racking up a career-high 17 strikeouts while surrendering just one hit and no runs over seven innings to pick up the win.

Jorgensen nearly notched his second no-hitter of the season in the process, heading to the seventh inning with a zero in the hit column, and struck out each Lamar batter at least once.

Jorgensen helped his own effort at the plate as well, combining a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first with an RBI single by Nate Iannariello to stake the Rangers to a 2-0 lead.

Jesuit would tack on another in the bottom of the fourth inning when Taylor Haddock dropped in a run-scoring single. David Montgomery chipped in a team-high two hits in the win for Jesuit.

The Rangers brought their bats to Arlington in Game 1 on Wednesday, pounding out 16 hits in the 13-4 triumph.

Jesuit scored five times in the first three innings, and after seeing its lead reduced to 5-3 in the bottom of the fourth, responded with four runs of its own in the top of the fifth to increase the lead to 9-3 before closing with four more in the top of the seventh for the final margin.

Braxton Barber went 2-for-4 with three runs and an RBI, Haddock went 2-for-4 with four RBIs, Brooks Kowal doubled twice and knocked in a pair and Roman Derichsweiler chipped in three hits.

On the mound, Jacob Martinez went the distance to pick up the win, surrendering three earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts.
