Highland Park Officials Talk Budget, Building Permits

The Highland Park Town Council study session was focused on where things stand with the town’s budget and building permits issued for the year so far.

Highland Park town officials said Tuesday that combined revenues for the town’s General and
Utility Funds totaled $35,961,483, or 66.4% of the annual budgeted revenue for the two funds for fiscal year 2025–26 as of March 31, 2026.

Combined expenditures and encumbrances for the same period were $25,261,306, or 45.4% of
the total combined expenditure budget, according to town officials.

Officials also said the town has received 17 new home permits so far in 2026, as well as 30 permits for remodels and additions, compared to 22 new home permit submissions in 2025, when 74 permits for remodels and additions were submitted.

In other news, the town council:

• Approved changing the town’s Health and Sanitation Code regarding food sanitation at the council’s regular meeting.

• Approved changing the town’s code to adopt the 2024 International Fire Code and regional amendments.

• Received an update from the Rotary Club of Park Cities regarding the 4th of July Parade.
