Highland Park High School graduating senior Erin Muse received the Elizabeth Toon Memorial Scholarship during the high school’s Honors Day Celebration.
The $10,000 scholarship, which was created 21 years ago in Toon’s honor, is funded by The Catholic Foundation. Darina O’Dowd Padian, Vice President of Development at The Catholic Foundation, presented the award to Muse.
Muse plans to attend Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, where she will double major in Spanish and Ethics, Politics, and Economics.
The Elizabeth Toon Memorial Scholarship is given to a graduating senior who intends to pursue a baccalaureate or advanced degree at any accredited college or university. The scholarship is awarded based on both academic and extracurricular achievement, as well as service and leadership potential.
Elizabeth Toon was a loving and caring daughter, sister, family member and friend who was tragically killed in November 2006 at the age of 22 by a hit and run driver in Los Angeles. She attended Highland Park High School from 1998 to 2002. She was a varsity cheerleader, community service participant, exemplary student, and leader in the community. A strong Christian who never wavered from her priorities, Toon was very selfless and always put others first.
Muse received one of more than 40 donor-endowed scholarships administered by the Highland Park Education Foundation.
