Park Cities Native, Advocate Focus of New Documentary

A Park Cities native who sustained a spinal cord injury following a 2015 crash in a rideshare she was in and has since been an advocate for others is the focus of a new documentary.

The documentary, Living in the Wake of Impact, airs on PBS stations August 1 and is available to stream now on Kinema.

It centers Sarah Milburn, who sustained a spinal cord injury when a rideshare she was in was involved in a crash in Uptown Dallas in 2015.

“Through deeply personal stories and expert insight, the film reveals the resilience, advocacy, and collaboration required to rebuild lives at the intersection of medicine and law,” a description of the documentary on the website of LegalMed180, which produced the film, reads.

Following the crash, Milburn pursued civil litigation against the vehicle manufacturer in a case that went up to the Supreme Court of Texas and garnered headlines.

Milburn has remained an advocate, volunteering with Baylor Scott and White, serving on the board of the Neuro Assistance Foundation, and a peer mentor for the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, and more.

“I believe that this happened to me for a reason, and I’m here to make a difference and help others,” Milburn said.

Locally in the Park Cities, her efforts also led to the installation of a handicap crosswalk at the intersection of Preston Road and Lovers Lane.
