JD’s Chippery celebrated a sweet milestone on June 2 — the first anniversary of its new location in Preston Royal Village, 6025 Royal Lane, suite 101.

The new outpost is the younger sibling of the Snider Plaza original founded in 1983 and the Dallas-born bakery’s second location.

Guests marked the fresh-baked Preston Hollow spot’s first birthday with signature cookies, muffins, and ice cream sandwiches while sharing well wishes with owner Amy Broad. The daughter of founders John and Julie Broad, Amy quite literally grew up in the family business.

“My parents started JD’s Chippery when I was six months old,” she said. “I would sleep in a cabinet underneath our cookie case.”

As she graduated from her cocoa-scented cubby hole to helping mix, scoop, and bake, Amy learned the real secret of the family recipe: always use the best ingredients and make everything with love.

Over the decades, she also witnessed JD’s grow into a local legend. Whether families in the surrounding University Park neighborhoods, or students from nearby SMU, her parents’ little bakery became “a part of the fabric of many lives.”

“We have customers who have been coming in since the beginning,” Amy said. “Maybe they were in law school back then, and now they come in with their children. Some even come in with their grandbabies.”

As the fanbase grew through three, then four, generations, so did the business. Online ordering and nationwide delivery were added as the internet rose to prominence. To meet a burgeoning catering and pop-up demand, a vintage Citroën was outfitted as JD’s “Chippery Truck.” Along the way, trend-driven menu items were also added to complement the classics, including brookies and custom-mixed sodas.

Fast-forward to 2023, and Amy officially took over the business with plans to expand. Taking her time, she eventually found the ideal spot — right in Preston Hollow’s backyard. JD’s at Preston Royal debuted in 2025 and it’s proven to be as perfect a pair for the neighborhood as, well, cookies and milk.

“We wanted to find an area with a strong sense of community and appreciation for the tradition and nostalgia behind our business,” Amy said. “The response has been incredible. We’ve had longtime customers excited to have us closer to them, while also welcoming many new guests. It has been so rewarding to see how quickly Preston Hollow has embraced us.”
