The North Central Texas Council of Governments is exploring the possibility of extending the historic M-Line trolley street car route to the Knox-Henderson neighborhood.
The 4.6-mile M-Line Trolley route runs along McKinney Avenue through the Uptown and Downtown/Arts District areas. The M-Line trolley began service in 1989, and has seven cars in operation, according to the McKinney Avenue Transit Authority’s website.
The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) shared in its Local Motion Newsletter that it has launched a study exploring the feasibility of extending the trolley to the Knox-Henderson neighborhood.
The M-Line Trolley system has grown since its launch in 1989 to include connectivity to Klyde Warren Park, the Arts District, and Dallas Area Rapid Transit’s light rail system, according to the NCTCOG.
“A northern extension would expand this network to reach Knox-Henderson, one of Dallas’ fastest-growing neighborhoods. If implemented, this extension would improve connections between Knox-Henderson, Uptown and downtown Dallas, while providing greater access to the Katy Trail and Cole Park,” the newsletter reads.
According to the newsletter, opportunities for input on the project will be announced this fall and continue through 2027.
