It’s hard to top Snoopy. He’s a World War I flying ace, beagle scout, and loyal friend to Charlie Brown. Everyone’s favorite pup was also the star of People Newspapers’ gourd during the Reliant Energy Pumpkin Carving Media Contest for Charity at the Dallas Arboretum.
Our number one beagle was not the favorite of the judges — our pumpkin did not place in the top three. The win at the Sept. 18 contest went to CBS News Texas, whose team members turned their pumpkin into a flower vase fit for a Thanksgiving centerpiece.
But we still raised $1,000 for The Chris Murzin Foundation with our Snoopy-themed creation.
The Chris Murzin Foundation bridges the gap between law enforcement and hi-tech companies whose software and data could be used to solve homicides. It also advocates for survivors and works to protect affected communities.
The foundation honors the memory of Chris Murzin, a father of three who was gunned down in an apparent road rage incident in broad daylight on I-20. Chris was known for his community leadership, advocacy for the special needs community, and devotion to his family. He was named University Park’s citizen of the year in 2008.
Chris’ murder remains unsolved.
