Perhaps the toughest test of the season thus far awaits Jesuit Dallas Friday when the Rangers travel to take on yet another area-ranked team in Prosper Walnut Grove.

The Dallas Morning News ranks Walnut Grove No. 8 in the area in Class 6A, making the Wildcats the third area-ranked team Jesuit has faced this season after coming up short in non-district action against both Sachse and Rockwall (tied for 11th).

It hasn’t taken long for Walnut Grove to become a factor in the Metroplex football scene.

The Wildcats went 11-2 in their debut varsity season in 2024, advancing to the third round of the 5A playoffs before following that up with a perfect regular season and second consecutive berth in the regional semifinals, where they were defeated by Argyle.

This year as a 6A program, Walnut Grove has won all five of its games by at least 21 points, including a 44-23 triumph over Prosper Rock Hill to open District 6-6A action.

Ashton Gosselin has powered the Walnut Grove under center after taking over for Hayes Hackney, who transferred to Argyle following two productive seasons with the Wildcats.

Through five games, Gosselin is completing 76 percent of his passes for 1,218 yards and 11 touchdowns against two interceptions.

Gosselin has a trio of targets producing at a high rate in Landon Dean (27 catches, 384 yards, five touchdowns), Chase Jolley (25 catches, 337 yards, two touchdowns) and Hayden Smith (17 catches, 229 yards, three touchdowns), while running back Camryn King has gained 5.4 yards per carry with eight scores.

Friday’s game will take place at 7 p.m. from Children’s Health Center in Prosper and is the first game in a 6-6A murderer’s row for Jesuit with No. 7 Prosper up next followed by No. 1 Allen.
