The Dog Days of summer are upon us. I can’t walk outside my house without wanting to run through every sprinkler I see, and neither can my family dog, Tilly.
The Holmes Aquatic Center must be reading our minds. On Sunday, Sept. 8, dog owners and their pups will dive in to the pool from noon to 3 p.m. for Doggie Splash Day.
At 12:45 p.m. there’ll be a dog paddle race, which I think my three-legged dog might not enjoy that much.
At 2 p.m. there’s a retrieving contest that involves fetching hot dogs. I’m not sure how many hotdogs will actually make it back, but it still sounds fun to watch.
Lastly, there’ll be a dog costume/swimsuit contest at 2:30 p.m. I have a feeling Tilly would hate the costume and probably behave badly, but she might get the sympathy vote for having three legs?

To participate, dog owners must register. Owners will be charged $5. Spectators will be charged $1. Before you register, check out the event regulations here. Note, no electric, pinch, spike or choke collars will be allowed.
What are you and your pup(s) doing to beat the heat this summer?
Update: Earlier I said regular swimming would be suspended. The pool officially closes on Labor Day, the weekend before the event.
