Summer’s coming. Let’s keep it clean.
I grew up on Princeton. We had a great block and played outside all summer. Every now and then, someone would step in dog poop. Then they’d scream like there’s no tomorrow, hobble over to the garden hose, wash it off, and rejoin the game as if nothing happened. Mothers never got involved. We probably never even told them.
Well, times have changed. Mothers are always involved, and it’s the law to leash and clean up after your dog.
I walk my dog every day, never leaving the house with fewer than three bags. Every now and then, I’m accosted by a neighbor, even though I’m standing there, hand in bag, ready to clean up. Their number one question: Why I can’t have my dog do this in my yard?
My route takes me through Highland Park Village; sometimes Snider Plaza. There are days when someone’s dog has used the sidewalk, and the owner has chosen to leave it there. In a shopping center. On a sidewalk. Why leave it on any sidewalk?
So here are my questions: What is the trick to making your dog go on command? You know, when it’s convenient for you? And if you don’t clean up after your dog, why?
