CC Young is hosting its 25th Spirit is Ageless Art & Writing Contest. The contest offers a chance for adults 55 and older to submit artwork in many forms, including poetry, sculpture, and painting.

According to a CC Young representative, the competition has become a cultural touchstone since its launch, telling stories and showcasing talents that often go unseen or unheard.

People who are interested in participating can register online starting August 1, with entry drop-offs on August 19 and August 20 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Residents at CC Young can submit two free entries, while participants who are not residents can submit one free entry and a second entry for $10.

Each piece of artwork will be featured in The Spirit is Ageless exhibition, which participants can view at the awards program on October 24 at CC Young. Dr. Alise Cortez, a psychologist and author, will lead the program as the keynote speaker.

“For 25 years, the Spirit is Ageless Art & Writing Contest has engaged hundreds of artists annually, rewriting society’s expectations about aging through brushstrokes and words,” says Brian Parman, director of The Point & Pavilion. “This event reminds us it is never too late to surprise yourself. We’ve seen people pick up a paintbrush, pen, or camera for the very first time in their 70s or 80s and uncover a whole new side of themselves. This contest is about giving those discoveries a place to shine.”
