It seems the pages are turning pretty quickly on Border’s final chapter. Yesterday, the national bookstore chain declared bankruptcy and announced the closure of about 200 stores, including the one at Preston Oaks Shopping Center. I mused about the fate of store events already on the calendar for the coming months, and Borders spokesperson Mary Davis gave a noncommittal response, saying that “efforts would be made to make events available at area stores.” The poster advertising Michael Oher’s Saturday signing of I Beat The Odds now bears a “CANCELED” sticker. No word yet on whether or not another store will pick him up.
