Locking your car and garage should always be on your "to-do" list; just ask this resident in the 4500 block of Emerson Avenue who failed to do both and had $4,100 in jewels stolen sometime between 2 and 2:45 p.m. Sept. 9 from his unlocked car in his open garage.

Where art thou, oh tire thief? Reported on August 31: All wheels and tires on a vehicle parked at The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepard on Midway Road were reported stolen at 8:54 a.m.

At 8:37 a.m. Sept. 1, officers found a white Ford Explorer illegally parked in the 3300 block of Mockingbird Lane between two signs and forcing eastbound motorists to drive over the yellow lines. After a wrecker service loaded it onto a tow truck, the owner, who was attending church, came out and said she didn't know she was parked illegally.

What's a shoplifter to do when without a bag within which to conceal sweet-smelling loot? Steal one of those, too. Reported at 9:53 a.m. Aug. 6: An opportunistic thief used one off the shelf on Aug. 5 to conceal fragrances and leave Ulta in Preston Forest Village.

A resident in the 3800 block of Lovers Lane confronted a landscape worker caught taking a package off the front porch at 5:35 p.m. Aug. 9 and The worker returned the items - or so it seemed. Upon later examination, the resident noticed that one item was still missing.

Reported at 8:13 p.m. on July 31: A rogue snuck into a backyard in the 11000 block of Lawn Haven Road on July 29 and stole some pool equipment. No word on whether the thief took a quick dip before leaving.

Gilstrap-Portloy Gets Six Years Probation
A jury has given Sydney Gilstrap-Portloy, a 26-year-old who posed as a high school student at Hillcrest in 2018 and dated a 14-year-old, six years probation, per officials.
