In the early hours of Friday morning, the Dallas ISD school board approved its expansion and renovation plan, also known as the interim bridge plan, for the district’s schools. The $129.5 million project will address overcrowding issues, building repairs to older schools, and expanding the pre-K education programs.
Many schools in Preston Hollow are benefiting from this plan: Hillcrest High School, W.T. White High School, Walker Middle School, Nathan Adams Elementary School, as well as a pre-K expansion near Bush Elementary, Ann Frank Elementary, and Junkins Elementary.
The plan’s budget was decreased from $134.7 million after a vote to remove the creation of three “choice” schools that would be student interest-specific (performing arts, STEM, etc.). DISD plans on funding the bridge plan in a few ways: approximately $30 million is coming from 2008 bond funds, $75 million is coming from maintenance tax notes, and $43 million is coming out of general funds.
Construction on some of the schools in the plan is scheduled to begin immediately and others will follow in the 2016-17 school year.
