Each May, National Police Week recognizes law enforcement officers who have given their lives in the line of duty, as well as those who continue to serve and protect our communities.

Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Gay Donnell Willis said she was honored to walk with Dallas Police officers and hear remembrances of loved ones lost during the ceremony at the Dallas Police Memorial.

Throughout the week, residents were encouraged to thank a police officer for their service and visit the Dallas Police Memorial at Akard and Young Street, where fallen Dallas officers are honored and remembered.

“As National Police Week comes to a close, we want to take a moment to recognize and honor the courageous men and women in law enforcement who serve and protect our communities each day, while remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty,” said Willis,” adding, “We are grateful that Dallas did not lose an officer in the line of duty this year.”
