The SPCA of Texas is launching a Memorial Day Weekend Adoption Special aimed at helping hundreds of shelter animals find permanent homes during the holiday weekend.

Beginning May 20 and running through May 25, adoption fees for all dogs and cats at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center in Dallas will be reduced to $25, thanks to support from Hill’s Pet Nutrition.

The organization also announced that active-duty military members and veterans will be able to adopt pets free of charge throughout the event.

Organizers say the promotion comes at a critical time as shelters continue working to place large numbers of animals into homes before the busy summer intake season. All pets available for adoption have been vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and are ready for placement.

The adoption event will take place daily from noon to 6 p.m., including Memorial Day Monday, at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center, located at 2400 Lone Star Drive in Dallas.

The SPCA of Texas said the initiative is intended both to honor military service members during Memorial Day weekend and to encourage families considering pet adoption to take the next step.

Additional information about the event and adoptable animals is available through the website.
