Denton Animal Services is reaching out to the Dallas community to help animals in need. The shelter, according to Victoria Chittam Bennett, Assistant Director of Dallas Animal Services, has reached its max capacity and urges Dallasites to adopt the animals without a home.

After taking in animals from three large-scale cruelty seizures, on top of caring for hundreds of dogs and cats, the shelter has reached capacity and is looking for foster homes, volunteers, and pet reunifications.

“Our shelter is beyond the population level that allows us to operate most effectively,” said Bennett. “Our staff and volunteers continue to provide compassionate care to every animal who comes through our doors, but we cannot do this alone. The community’s support is critical right now. Every adoption, every foster placement, every volunteer shift, and every pet reclaimed by its owner creates space and resources for another animal in need.”

Shelter officials pointed to increasing summer temperatures and rainfall as key factors in lower visitation rates and adoptions. Dallas Animal Services’ major goal is to get operating procedures to 80% to better support the animals’ well-being. The current population rates exceeding the shelter projection have led to strained resources, decreased emergency intake, and condensed space for incoming rescues.

The community is encouraged to help by adopting a pet of their own, as well as fostering, volunteering, rescuing lost pets, or sharing adoptable animals on social media. Every animal saved is a life filled with love and helps animals arrive at the shelter every day.
