Galleria Dallas is sharpening kids’ minds for the summer with the help of a nonprofit called “Catch Up & Read,” which is opening a brand-new exhibit for children learning to read for the first time.

The exhibit, “Score with Reading,” will be available July 1 through July 31, and organizers hope kids fall in love with books by local children’s book authors and a special pop-up activity inspired by the authors’ stories, according to Carol Goglia, president and CEO of the nonprofit.

“For the past 17 school years, Catch Up & Read has been dedicated to helping children develop the literacy skills they need to succeed in school and beyond,” Goglia said. “Through the Gallery Wall and Storytimes at Galleria Dallas, we have an exciting opportunity to engage the community, celebrate the joy of reading, and highlight the importance of ensuring every child can read by the end of third grade.”

Storytimes and Camp Crafty will be available starting at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays throughout July. These feature a wide range of storytellers like Rosie J. Pova and Kena Sosa, who are both known for Sunday Rain, Sally’s Musical Tale, and The Unhuggables, along with several other authors.

“Catch Up & Read’s mission to put books in the hands of children and families resonates deeply with what we strive to create here,” said Galleria Dallas Director of Marketing Audrey Miranda. “By featuring the nonprofit on our gallery wall and hosting family-friendly Storytimes, we’re giving our shoppers an opportunity to support something that makes a real difference for local families.”

The exhibit is free to all shoppers in the area, and more information can be found for parents on their website.
