Swimmers-in-training in University Park will again seek to make a splash and ride the wave into the history books — or at least help break a Guinness World Record.
Participants at the Holmes Aquatic Center will join other swimmers from around the globe for the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson (WLSL). The event, started in 2010 to teach children about water safety in an effort to reduce risk of drowning, will run locally from 8:15 to 8:45 a.m. June 25 at the Holmes Aquatic Center (3501 Lovers Lane). To pre-register, click here. It’s free to participate.
The current world record for largest simultaneous swimming lesson conducted at multiple venues was set in 2014 with 35,564 participants across 22 countries. Since its inception in 2010, more than 448,000 children and adults in 56 countries have participated in World’s Largest Swimming Lesson events. For more information, visit WLSL’s website.
The Holmes Aquatic Center hosted its first lesson in 2022. Last year, about 35 swimmers-in-training took part there.
