Re: Major Crash on Preston Blocks Road From Windsor to University

|

Steve Mace sends word to us from UPPD’s report on last night’s wreck:

The accident yesterday afternoon on Preston Road occurred at approximately 4:10 p.m.   Both vehicles were northbound on Preston Road. The driver of the Honda, who was transported to Baylor, actually saw a car coming up behind her at a very fast speed.  She attempted to take evasive actions by pulling over into the next lane but the heavier Cadillac, which was traveling at an unknown speed, but obviously very fast, struck the Honda in the rear.  The original point of contact was at Preston and Windsor.  The speed of the Cadillac actually pushed the Honda over 500 feet north where it came to rest just north of McFarlin.  There was a 500 foot debris path.

The driver of the Honda was treated and released, as was the driver of the Cadillac.  Charges are pending against the driver of the Cadillac as blood samples were taken and it will be a few weeks before the results return.

Due to the seriousness of the accident, UPPD traffic investigators were called to the scene.  The area was closed off for several hours while they collected evidence and took necessary measures for the investigation.  Speed will have to be calculated based on those measurements due to the fact that neither vehicle involved was equipped with a “black box” which we normally use to obtain that data.
