Milkshakes are the quintessential non-alcoholic celebratory drink. Win a basketball game? Celebrate with a milkshake! Make the honor roll? Let’s get a shake! Conversely, milkshakes can also be a soothing balm after dental surgery or a breakup. Ask me how I know.
The MilkShake Factory opened in July in the Preston Valley Shopping Center and serves milkshakes of all kinds, including their signature shakes, classics, and gourmet shakes.
Made from a vanilla soft-serve base and premium house-made syrups, the milkshakes here are rich and satisfying, and can be made as simple or ornate as you like. Signature shakes are the Chocolate Dipped Strawberry, Chocolate Cake Shake, the Cookie Jar, and Campfire S’Mores, each adorned with chocolate confections that are made on site.
Franchisee Dylan Chatterjee brought the concept to Dallas after working in tech for years. “I wanted to open a business that connects with community,” he said. The MilkShake Factory originated in Pittsburgh as a family-owned premium chocolate company and evolved into a small but growing franchise operation. Chatterjee hopes to add two more locations in the Dallas area.
Continuing the company’s chocolatier legacy, MilkShake Factory also makes and sells chocolate bark, some plain and some loaded with goodies such as M&Ms, pretzels, and peanut butter. The bark can be packaged and sold for gifting as well.
Dairy-free shake options exist, and if you just want a root beer float or a sundae, you can get that here, too.
If you’re not sure where Preston Valley Shopping Center is, you’re not alone. I didn’t even know that shopping center had a name despite having visited many of its tenants over the last three decades. The shopping center located on Preston Road just south of LBJ Freeway is subjectively one of the least visually appealing shopping centers in a city that values aesthetics. Something works there, though, because it’s the home of long-time tenants including Chili’s, India Palace, Stein’s Bakery, Maple Leaf Diner, and Penzey’s. It’s a good food destination and home to Terry Costa and Dougherty’s Pharmacy, two iconic Dallas stores. The longevity of the tenants was a deciding factory in Chatterjee’s site selection.
The MilkShake Factory is located at 12835 Preston Rd #215, Dallas, TX 75230. It’s open seven days a week from Noon til 10:00 p.m.
