Georgia Gurley, Nora Godwin, and Liv Allen hoped to raise $350 for victims of the Hill Country’s catastrophic flooding by selling lemonade and cookies on July 10.

The three friends managed to collect a little extra — a total of more than $900.

“I was happy that we got a lot of money,” said Georgia, who’s entering third grade at Providence Christian School of Texas. “I was really excited that it was all going to help.”

The money will be donated to the “More Like Wynne” memorial fund, which honors the memory of Wynne Naylor, a little girl with a great love for the outdoors, God, and her community.

Georgia’s mom, Rebecca, said the Naylor family is close to her heart. She was a sorority sister of Wynne’s mom in college, and Georgia, like Wynne, is about to enter third grade.

In addition to raising funds, the little lemonade stand became a gathering place for neighbors. One family brought over green bracelets for the girls to distribute with their cookies and beverages.

The Gurley family has a deep Christian faith, Rebecca said, and welcomed the opportunity to share their beliefs with neighbors and friends.

“We believe that Jesus is the way, and the truth, and the light, and those who trust in him will live forever,” she said. “So we believe we’ll see these girls again.”
