Families tied green ribbons to trees throughout the Park Cities on Monday to show their support for neighbors affected by the catastrophic flash floods in Kerr County.

Green is the signature color of Camp Mystic, and a unifying color to represent the girls lost in the flooding, explained outgoing Hyer PTA president Ann Higginbottom. Other colors were also tied to trees, perhaps to represent individual girls.

“This type of unfathomable grief and pain brings out the most incredible aspect of our community: standing together, upholding one another,” Higginbottom said. “The road ahead is very long. No family, nor community will ever be the same after such tragedy. We stand together, for the long haul.”

Ribbons are available through Highland Park ISD parent teacher associations and organizations.

Adam Saxton and Dan Murphy put roles of ribbon on their porch in the 4400 block of Beverly Drive for pick up by anyone wanting to assist in the effort.

“We know there is nothing we can do so we just did something … We would love every tree to have a ribbon,” Saxton explained.

Visit @thebeverlycasa on Instagram for more information about how to pick up ribbon. Saxton and Murphy had about 25 rolls available at 2 p.m. Monday afternoon, and planned to pick up 50 more rolls by 5 p.m. Monday evening.

The number of those who lost their lives in the Central Texas flooding had risen to 90 by midday on Monday, even as emergency officials continued their search efforts. Camp Mystic confirmed that 27 campers and counselors had died in the floods. Ten campers and one counselor remained unaccounted for, according to The Texas Tribune.

At least six young Highland Park ISD students who were attending Camp Mystic did not survive.
