Highland Park Presbyterian Church has elected the Rev. Thomas Daniel, a gifted and compassionate leader with more than 25 years of ministry service, as its new senior pastor.
Daniel was unanimously recommended by the church’s pastor nominating committee, which spent more than a year praying, studying scripture, learning from other churches and leaders, and meeting with a large, diverse group of candidates.
Daniel was elected by a congregational vote on Sept. 7. His selection came nearly two years after the passing of the Rev. Bryan Dunagan, who led Highland Park Presbyterian Church for nine years.
“Again and again, we felt the Lord at work guiding us to Thomas,” said Charles Davis, co- moderator of the pastor nominating committee. “I am confident that his dynamic preaching, his compassionate discipleship and his heart for missions will be a blessing to our congregation and to the city of Dallas.”
Daniel has served as senior pastor and head of staff of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Austin since 2014. He is a native of Atlanta, Georgia, and a graduate of Davidson College and Columbia Theological Seminary, where he earned both his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry.
Daniel and his wife, the Rev. Beth Daniel, an ordained Presbyterian Pastor who serves with The Ministry Collaborative, have two college-age daughters.
