The public is invited to participate in the second annual Dallas Walk for Parkinson’s from 8 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 11, at Edgemere senior living, 8523 Thackery Street.

The walk has an ambitious $40,000 fundraising goal. Organizers expect about 500 family members to join their loved ones at the free event hosted by Edgemere, which is the first certified Parkinson’s disease care community in Texas, and the Dallas Area Parkinson Society.

The pet-friendly event will include live music from the Honeybutton Band, games and entertainment for children, raffle prizes, and the powerful experience of walking alongside others who understand the challenges and resilience that come with Parkinson’s.

CBS Texas Reporter/anchor Amelia Mugavero will emcee the wheelchair-accessible walk, which features evenly paved routes, resting stations, complimentary water and refreshments, and shuttle assistance from nearby parking at Park Cities Baptist Church.

“We honestly didn’t know what to expect last year when we partnered with the Dallas Area Parkinson Society to create this walk in support of the 15,000 people living with Parkinson’s Disease in North Texas,” said Teresa Bates, Executive Director of Edgemere senior living community. “Together, our organizations poured our hearts into creating a day full of beauty and love, and the Dallas community responded incredibly. We can’t wait to do it again!”
