University Park Director of Parks and Recreation Sean Johnson is retiring from his post after a five-year tenure with the city. Some of the projects he helped lead during his tenure include work on Snider Plaza, the Miracle Mile, and the stormwater detention system at Caruth Park.
Johnson was named the city’s director of parks and recreation in 2020. His last day with the city will be April 7.
“Sean’s leadership has had a lasting impact on our parks system and the quality of life in University Park,” said City Manager Robbie Corder. “We are grateful for his service and dedication to the community.”
Other projects done under his watch include the development of Shaddock Park and the Williams Park pickleball complex. He also oversaw redevelopment at Centennial, Curtis, and Elena’s Children’s Parks, playground replacements at Curtis, Caruth, and Burleson Parks, and baseball field redevelopments at Coffee, Burleson, and Curtis Parks.
Other projects include renovations of tennis courts and lighting at all city parks, and mechanical upgrades at the Holmes Aquatic Center.
Details about the transition and search for the next director of parks and recreation will be announced later.
