Republican and Democratic voters headed to the polls Tuesday to pick their party’s nominees in several key runoff races.

The races on the ballot May 26 were those in which no candidate received more than 50% of the vote in the March 3 primary elections.

A return to precinct-based voting caused widespread confusion among county voters about where they could cast their ballots in the March 3 primaries.

But an appeals court declined to issue an emergency court order restoring precinct-based voting for the primary runoff election that was sought by a Dallas County GOP precinct chair, and voters could cast their ballot anywhere in the county during the May 26 elections.

We’ll be following the May 26 primary runoff election results as they come in after polls close at 7 p.m.

Key races on the ballot

The U.S. Senate race was hotly contested. Ultimately, Attorney General Ken Paxton beat incumbent Republican Sen. John Cornyn in the primary runoff election with just under 64% of the vote (885,949) to Cornyn’s 36.16% of the vote (63.84%).

Cornyn received 42% of the vote (910,382 total votes) to Paxton’s 41% (878,564 total votes) in the March 3 primary.

Paxton will go on to face Democrat James Talarico, who beat Jasmine Crockett in the March primary, in November.

In U.S. House District 24, which includes parts of the Park Cities and Preston Hollow as well as a large swath in Tarrant County, Kevin Burge faced a challenge from TJ Ware for the Democratic nomination.

On May 26, Burge beat Ware with 78.1% (10,626 total votes) to Ware’s 21.9% (2,979 total votes)

Burge will face incumbent Republican Beth Van Duyne in November.
