The Londoner Pub in Mockingbird Station was temporarily ordered to close Wednesday amid reports of large crowds in town for the FIFA World Cup gathered there.
The Londoner Pub shared in a post on social media around 7:30 p.m. June 17 that it was ordered to close for the rest of the day by the fire marshal. It’s set to reopen at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 18.
“We are incredibly grateful for the business and have done our absolute best to manage it,” the post read. “Reminder to our guests: We are in a complex of other businesses, but there are also residences in Mockingbird Station.”
The closure came after some U.K. media outlets, including The Independent, first reported that hundreds of England supporters in town for the Three Lions’ match against Croatia at Dallas Stadium Wednesday converged on the pub Tuesday night.
A Dallas Police Department spokesperson said the department was called to The Londoner regarding large crowds shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, but the crowd dispersed without incident, no injuries were reported, and no arrests were made then.
“Thank you to those of us who saw the mayhem that descended upon us and understand we did our very best to manage the situation. The sales are overinflated in reports and do not account for the destruction of our property and landscaping,” the Londoner’s post continued.
England beat Croatia 4-2 Wednesday.
