Dallas Symphony Orchestra will welcome six new musicians to their ensemble this season: three in the viola section, one in the horn section, one in the trumpet section, and one as Principal Librarian.
- Yong Ha Jung, born in Seoul, South Korea, will join the viola section. He graduated from the Julliard School with both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
- Pedro Mendez also joins the viola section after previously preforming with the orchestra for two years as part of the DSO’s fellowship program.
- Kelly Avila will join the DSO’s viola section on an interim basis this season. During her studies at Rice University and the Colburn School, she participated in festival programs including Shostakovich Festival Leipzig, Tanglewood Music Center, and Aspen Music Festival.
- Reese Farnell, a Fort Worth Native, joins the DSO’s horn section this year as Assistant Principal/Utility Horn. He grew up attending DSO concerts and is “overjoyed to officially become a member of the horn section.”
- Forrest Albano will join the trumpet section as Interim Utility Trumpet. Beyond the stage, he has traveled the country playing lead trumpet and collaborating with musicians from The Tonight Show, American Idol, and The Voice.
- Melissa Robason will join the DSO as Principal Librarian. She has worked with the DSO library since 2004 as a summer intern before joining full time in 2008.
All musicians will begin their roles September 1.
