Jake Allyn wants moviegoers to support his latest project, Clean Hands, not just for the story, but also for the cause.

The Preston Hollow native and Jesuit Dallas graduate makes his sophomore directorial effort with the gritty true-life drama about a Maryland cop (played by Zach Braff) whose family and community are torn apart by opioid addiction.

Specifically, the film chronicles the harrowing circumstances behind the creation of Brooke’s House, a nonprofit all-female recovery and treatment center founded by Kevin Simmers, a former narcotics sergeant in working-class Hagerstown, Maryland.

With the project set to open in theaters and via digital platforms on Friday, the filmmakers plan to donate one-third of the profits to the facility’s sobriety efforts.

Allyn, who wrote the screenplay, and his brother Conor, who produced the film, will host a screening of the film on Oct. 21 at the Angelika Film Center at Mockingbird Station as part of a community event called “Clean Hands: The Dallas Conversation.”

The Allyn siblings will participate in a panel discussion with Simmers and local advocates after the screening.

The film is the latest to be produced under the Margate House Films banner, co-founded by the Allyns and named after the Preston Hollow street where they grew up.

Conor Allyn is best known for directing the 2021 border thriller No Man’s Land, which starred Jake along with Frank Grillo and George Lopez. Meanwhile, Jake made his directorial debut with the Texas-set crime drama Ride, which debuted at the Dallas International Film Festival in 2024.
